Commander Christopher Brusca
A Los Angeles native, Commander Chris Brusca enlisted in the Navy after high school in 1993 as an Operations Specialist. While serving on USS Vandergrift (FFG 48), he was accepted into the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) Program. He graduated from the University of San Diego in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and again in 2005 with a Master of Science in Global Leadership from the School of Business.
At sea, he has served on ships in both the Pacific and Atlantic fleets with deployed operations in the Western Pacific, Arabian Gulf, Horn of Africa and the Baltics, participating in operations Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. His tours include propulsion officer on USS Dubuque (LPD 8); fire control officer on USS Decatur (DDG 73); engineering officer for MCM Crew Fearless while embarked on USS Chief (MCM 14) and USS Ardent (MCM 12); engineering officer on USS Simpson (FFG 56); strike officer for Carrier Strike Group Nine; and most recently, Executive Officer, LCS Crew 101, embarked on USS Fort Worth (LCS 3).
Ashore, his assignments include Assistant Professor of Naval Science at NROTC San Diego; Engineering Assessments Pacific; an Individual Augmentation tour as the Maritime Liaison Officer for Commander, Joint Special Operations Command; and Maintenance and Material Readiness Officer for Commander, US Third Fleet.
His awards and decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit and campaign awards.
